Man is not merely the flesh and blood. He is the greatest living being on the surface of this globe having the knowledge, wisdom, and prudence of the high order. The birth of a being as man is the opportunity for enlightenment and salvation. Various religions are here to show the path. The Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Bhagavat Gita etc. originated in India thousands of years ago and are the guiding lights for all who desire the ultimate goal. These great treasures are not of any particular caste, creed or religion. This is the treasure of the whole humanity. Rooted in these treasure of knowledge and wisdom, a civilisation and culture had bloomed and flourished in India. India is respected and revered by the world for this culture and not for any other material glory it has. So the propagation of Indian culture is a vital service to humanity and so it is the mission of the Bhavan. This amounts to an endeavour to reintegrate Bharatiya Vidya to suit modern conditions and to restore to our life an awareness of Dharma in its Triple aspects of Sathyam, Sivam and Sundaram (Truth, Love or Goodness and beauty). Bhavan’s ideal is Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam (the world is one family). It is based on the belief that there are elements in all culture, which transcend all barriers and knit people together. Bhavan’s motto is Aa no bhadrah kratavo yantu vishvatah (Let noble thoughts come to us from every side) (Rig Veda 1 – 89 – i). Bhavan is committed to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Gandhiji is a shining symbol of the noblest and the best in Indian Culture; “Sanatana Dharma” which has an amazing unbroken continuity of 5000 years and more. Gandhiji is the sage of the scientific age. He firmly believed that “Science with out spiritual values would result in Sarvanash – total ruin, and science with spiritual values would lead to Sarvodaya – total welfare for all. Albert Einstein had also stressed this idea. In short, the Bhavan’s effort is to build up a modern bridge spanning the past, present and future. Out of the past is born the present, out of the present is born the future – emphasized Swami Vivekananda. Young men and women who are entering in to the world of action after long years of education, passing through the portals of Bhavan’s Institutions are taught to go forth with consciousness that they are heirs to India’s glorious past, filled with the purpose, if possible, a more glorious future for the mother land and through her for the world. The Bhavan also continues to be a source of inspiration to them through intimate personal contacts not only in the classrooms, but also through prayer, meetings and seminars, even after they leave the Bhavan. The Bhavan’s Institutions are not meant merely to provide training, information or skill for better jobs but also to infuse educational institutions with a devotion to higher values, to introduce seriousness of purpose in the broader sense of translating them to life with dedication. Bhavan’s institutions should be so run that higher values are perceivable in the daily life of the teacher and the student. Development of intellectual life of the students is not enough. It must be harnessed to moral and spiritual development. Rajaji has emphasized that information should blossom in to knowledge and knowledge should mature in to wisdom, and that knowledge with out wisdom can be dangerous. Bhavan’s commitment is to impart value based education to the young and the old alike.

The noble values we cherish are encoded in Bhagavat Gita* as under Fearlessness, purity of heart, steadfastness in the YOGA-of Knowledge, alms-giving, control of the senses, sacrifice, study of the Sastras, and straight forwardness … Harmlessness, truth, absence of anger, renunciation, peacefulness, absence of crookedness, compassion to beings, non-covetousness, gentleness, modesty, absence of fickle-mindedness… Vigour, forgiveness, fortitude, purity, absence of hatred, and absence of pride – these belong to the one born for the Divine Estate, O Bharata.
